Willie, I have to share this with you. As teen, I lived with my parents on Vaughan Road. On St. Clair at my street was Health Bakery. My dad loved their blueberry buns. On his way home from work, he stopped and picked up a dozen and walked the block and half to our house. I was in the living room, and I am "blessed: with a very keen sense of smell. When Dad walked in, I inhaled what I thought was a heavy smell one would find in a garage. Excitedly, Dad took the bag or box of buns into the kitchen. My mom let out a cry, what it that horrible smell. Dad ignored her, thinking she was teasing him. He went to cut a piece of one bun, and mom stopped him before he put it into his mouth. Obviously there was something wrong. I took the buns back to the bakery, and there were many people on the street and the store was crowded. After a lot of pushing, screaming, etc., the manager came out and told us what had happened: There had been a problem with one of the dough mixers, and the workman cleaned and re oiled the motor. When he left, he mistakenly took the container of vegetable oil, and left a container of the oil he used to grease the mechanism. The non-English speaker person who helped with the baking just used this oil to make an entire batch of blueberry buns. And the owner, or manager promised that when all the mixing equipment, boards and all the things used were cleaned, we could get buns, but it wouldn't be until the next day. It seems the cleanup took most of the night, by mid day, buns were available. If you had order 6, you got a dozen. Health Bread did not make much "dough" (sorry for pun) that day!!

But I admit, the buns were amazing. As a bride, many years later, I made blueberry buns and my family loved them as well.

Enjoy the buns!

I made these! I was intrigued when I read your post and since I love blueberries I printed the recipe. My first (and only) attempt was very unattractive but delicious. So thank you for sharing.
